How to find your ring size at home
Share
Most wrong-size ring orders come down to one of two things: measuring at the wrong time of day, or confusing sizing systems. Both are easy to avoid. Australia uses letter sizes (the same system as the UK), and our rings are listed in those letters — M, N, O, P and so on.
Method 1: measure a ring you already own
The most accurate home method, because it removes your finger from the equation entirely.
- Take a ring that fits the intended finger well.
- Measure the inside diameter in millimetres — ruler across the widest point, inside edge to inside edge.
- Match it to the chart below.
Method 2: measure your finger
- Cut a thin strip of paper, about 5 mm wide.
- Wrap it around the base of the finger, snug but not tight.
- Mark where it overlaps, then measure the length to the mark in millimetres. That's your circumference.
AU/UK size chart
| AU/UK size | Inside diameter | Circumference |
|---|---|---|
| K | 16.2 mm | 50.9 mm |
| L | 16.6 mm | 52.2 mm |
| M | 17.0 mm | 53.5 mm |
| N | 17.4 mm | 54.7 mm |
| O | 17.8 mm | 56.0 mm |
| P | 18.2 mm | 57.2 mm |
| Q | 18.6 mm | 58.5 mm |
| R | 19.0 mm | 59.7 mm |
The details that prevent a wrong size
- Measure at the end of the day. Fingers are smallest in the morning and swell through the day, especially in warm weather. End-of-day is closest to your average.
- Not straight after exercise, and not when cold — both distort the reading noticeably.
- Large knuckles change the answer. If a ring has to squeeze past the knuckle, measure the knuckle too and pick a size between it and the base.
- Wide bands fit tighter. A wide band needs roughly half a size up from your measurement for the same feel.
- Between sizes? Go up. A slightly loose ring wears comfortably; a slightly tight one doesn't.
If it still isn't right
Measure twice on different days before ordering — it takes two minutes and catches most day-to-day variation. And if a ring arrives and the size isn't right, check our returns policy; unworn pieces can come back within the return window.
